When the Cool summer rains come, and the wind blows with more authority than usual and the clouds interrupt the Sunlight, the Outside is only shades of green. And negative space.
When the cool Summer rains come, steady and belligerent, puddles will see no Quarter from tiny, stomping bare feet. For none will be given.
When the skies break open and the Air is thick with Humidity, the curls on the head of Her and Her will tighten. And bounce with their steps. Keeping time with the Timeless.
When the out of Doors is wet and the Thunder and Lightening are asleep, the floor of the Kitchen will be pocked with tiny footprints. And paw prints.
There will be a request for an Umbrella.
Also boots.
Both requests will be immediately forgotten at the sight of the Rainbow.
When the summer rains come, swift and with generosity, the earth gets wet. And the hose stays put and the Garden shows a few more inches of growth.
When the Summer rains come we watch the Cardinals and sparrows and Robin and even those goddamn Starlings shake and bathe.
When the Rains come and the Wind blows, the old windows will groan and the Screen that doesn't fit "just right" will Clack-Clink-Clack in it's place. Until we tape it Fast.
When it Rains slow and steady, with a rhythm like Classical Music, naps are Longer.
When the Summer rains come, it brings out the Wonder and the Boy in me.
When it rains, Steady and soft, I stare out.
And smile.
-word.

You and the rain were the same damn thing there for a minute, weren't you?
You got to live it twice.

There is nothing quite like the summer rain. Great post.
And when the summer rains go we search the receeding puddles to save the worms.
